India’s $10 Laptops to cross US$100 When Finished!

Indian government had announced that, it was in the process of developing ‘the laptop for the masses’. This laptop was supposed to cost a mere Rs.400/- per piece when the program was initially announced.

However, now according to PC World, the same Rs. 400/- or the US $10 laptop will cost about Rs.4000 or US $100 when the project is finished and the product hits the markets. The project of creating the most economical laptop in the world was undertaken by two renowned education and research institutions to provide inexpensive computing technology, that would help in boosting the level of education in India.

One of the most renowned education institutions of India, Indian Institute of Science (IIS), Bangalore and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Chennai have been working on this project for some time now. Some time ago, Ministry of Higher Education spokesperson, D. Purandeswari had stated that, the new laptops would be priced at just $10 so as to make them accessible to students at large. However, this statement has consistently been changing and so have the proposed prices of the new laptops.
