Google Earth Used by Terrorists in Mumbai Attacks!

The attacks in Mumbai stunned the whole world! It has been reported that the terrorists who were involved in the whole plotting made use of digital maps from Google Earth to know about various locations, according to officials investigating the attacks.

As far as the investigation from the Mumbai police is concerned, the news suggest that the terrorists were trained in the best way possible and were capable of using advanced technology gadgets like satellite phones, and global positioning systems (GPS), and one of them was the smart of use of Google Earth to locate their target.

Google Earth came under a lot of scrutiny in India, including a lot of criticism from the country’s former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It is known that Kalam warned that because of the availability of online detailed analysis of all the maps of countries from services such as Google Earth is proving a hurdle in the security aspect as is also misused by terrorists in a major way. The warning came in the form of a lecture that was given in the year 2005.

Indian security agencies have complained that the availability of Google Earth is playing a very big role in exposing the Indian defense and other sensitive installations as well. Other nations, including China, have also come up with similar complaints regarding military locations in the past.
