It has now become the number one smartphone vendor in the Western Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific, by putting itself ahead of Apple, RIM and Nokia respectively.

Apple has slipped into the third place in the US smartphone market, with its US smartphone shipments totaling 4.6 millions in the said quarter. This has also resulted in disappointment for consumers awaiting the launch of the iPhone 4S.
