Dev Team Releasing Unlock System for iPhone 3G This New Year

In their blog, the Dev team has announced that it will be releasing a software unlock solution for the iPhone 3G this New Year.
The blog mentions:
“We have been working hard on 3G unlock code named “Yellowsn0w”. The work is almost complete and is being packaged into a user-friendly way with the same amount of simplicity you see in QuickPwn or BootNeuter. The unlock method will be applicable on iPhone 3Gs, which have 2.11.07 baseband or earlier. A jaiborken 3G iPhone will be required for unlock”.
Some other details posted in the blog include:
The DUF problem, which was experienced by users has now been upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.6 system update.
Experts have discussed that the behavior is due to kernel bug, which is not a specific counter measure by Apple. Some suggested fixes are (at your own risk):
- 1. Replace the below written Plugin kexts from within IOUSBFFamily.kext with the one 10.55. After this, rebuild the kextcache (but if you don’t understand the process, do not try it).
/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBHub.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBCompositeDriver.kext
- A USB hub in-between the DFU device and Mac should be used. Insert/ reinsert the iPhone’s USB cable into it.
- Use a PwnageTool created .ipsw on Windows
