Apple Unveils iOS6 at WWDC 2012!

WWDC 2012 witnessed the revelation of a ton of hardware and software by Apple. One of the most welcomed and appreciated software is iOS6 which has already created a buzz in the market. The new mobile operating system comes with more than 200 new features. Apple has also released a beta version to iOS6 Developer Program members. It is loaded with all the latest features like new version of the voice-activated personal assistant Siri, Facebook integration, new maps and Apple’s new app – Passbook. iOS6 will be available in iPhone, iPad and iPod as a free software update later this year.

Here is a preview of few features being offered by the new operating system:

  • Video Calls via Cellular Network: With this new feature facetime video calls can now be made through cellular network.
  • Facebook Integration: This feature allows users to sync Facebook contacts and calendar events across Apple phones.

  • Siri: It comes in more languages to answer more questions. It can be used to find the latest sports scores, make restaurant reservations, update status on Facebook, post to Twitter or launch an app.
  • Passbook: This new app helps in controlling coupons, boarding passes, and cards.
  • Maps App: It includes new turn-by-turn navigation guides and flyover will have  photo-realistic interactive 3D views.

  • Guided Access: This feature will allow one to disable hardware buttons to lock an iOS6 device into a single app.
  • Mail: It comes with a new feature: VIPs. People could be marked as VIPs and their mails will automatically go into a special folder.

  • iCloud: This feature allows users to share photos specific streams with selected people. One can pick friends and they will be able to see their uploaded photos in a dedicated stream automatically with constant updates.
  • New Safari: It provides live synchronization of tabs with desktop Safari. It uses iCloud synchronization for an Offline Reading List.

Besides all the features above it also comes with other unique features. It will show a list of messages like “I’ll call you later” or “I’m on my way” which can be clicked and it will be automatically send while rejecting a call. It also consists of a “Do Not Disturb” preference which will turn off calls and messages at night.

iOS6 will be available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 4th generation iPod touch, the latest iPad and iPad 2 and will arrive later this year.
